What is Business Culture Certification?

It is a research‑led way to measure, profile and recognise culture as a strategic asset. While many attributes are commonly associated with "good culture", these alone do not guarantee sustainable growth or long‑term performance. Real impact comes when culture is intentionally aligned with business strategy, future‑ready by design, and formally recognised for the value it creates.

This Certification has been developed in partnership with the research, leadership and management faculty at Hult International Business School, drawing on robust, widely recognised models of organisational culture and informed by an advisory panel of Chief People Officers from a diverse range of organisations. It builds on more than a decade of Business Culture Awards data and research into organisational culture best practice.

Why Certification Matters

Image

Business Culture Certification recognises organisations that go beyond good intent to deliberately create workplaces where people thrive and businesses succeed. Certification recognises that cultural impact is determined less by individual traits, and more by how culture is applied in service of the organisation’s goals. When culture actively shapes how strategy is delivered, it becomes a source of sustained advantage.

Certification provides a highly credible form of external recognition, alongside a detailed, evidence‑based report that reveals your organisation’s cultural profile, culture–strategy alignment, and future workplace readiness. Organisations can also opt to receive deeper insight and practical guidance to help translate these findings into focused action and long‑term impact.

Why Certification Matters

In today’s competitive landscape, organisations with strong, purpose and values-driven cultures consistently outperform their peers. Business Culture Certification recognises those who prioritise the creation of workplaces where people thrive and businesses succeed. It takes into account that while there are certain aspects of "good culture", it is the alignment of culture and strategy which is the most powerful predictor of business success.

Not only is Certification a highly credible form of recognition, the data and report will reveal your cultural profile, culture-strategy gap, and future workplace readiness. You can also opt to receive additional insight into how to manage your culture based on your results.

How is this different from Business Culture Awards recognition?

The Business Culture Awards, now in their 11th year and open for entries, recognise wide-ranging initiatives and programmes organisations have implemented to positively impact workplace culture and business performance. Entrants typically showcase one or two significant pieces of work - such as a transformation programme, wellbeing initiative or merger - and are assessed alongside peers within their chosen categories.

Certification takes a holistic view of what is happening across the organisation, bringing together evidence on people, culture and business strategy. The application process requires a robust level of evidence and can be undertaken at any point during the year. Recognition is awarded on the basis of achieving a minimum threshold score, drawn from assessments of culture–strategy alignment, future workplace readiness, purpose and values alignment, and cultural strengths across 12 dimensions shown to correlate with stronger business performance.

"You can buy a man's time, you can buy a man's physical presence at a given place; you can even buy a measured number of skilled muscular motions per hour or day. But you cannot buy enthusiasm; you cannot buy initiative; you cannot buy loyalty; you cannot buy the devotion of hearts, minds and souls. You have to earn these things.Clarence Francis, Chairman General Foods
